I’ve been with B.O.S.S. fitness on and off for eight years (this being my third time). I joined shortly after having begun my fitness journey on my own. I graduated high school at a top weight of 245lbs. I lost 20lbs, or so, in the eight years afterward. I was stuck and could not seem to do any better on my own.

When I joined B.O.S.S. I weighed about 220lbs., worked two jobs, and was a 20 something learning how to live. I didn’t have a car so I walked to and from the gym (from Olde Towne East to the location in the Short North).  I lost another 20lbs., but had to stop. It was another two years before I rejoined and this time I achieved my first goal (170lbs.)! I was so proud of myself and I kept the weight off for years, but as always does, life happened. Through work, school, marriage, and several close friends and family members passing I slowly lost almost all of my gains. I was unhappy, unfit, and stressed out.

The year before last, during a physical, I was diagnosed as hypertensive, well over 180/110. I knew something was wrong as I had no energy, it became harder to function, I began to feel my arms and legs tingle when I wasn’t moving.

I swallowed my pride and went back to B.O.S.S. a third time.  My goal hasn’t been to lose weight (though I am grateful to have), but to learn how to be healthy and independently happy. I’ve lost 35lbs. over the summer, but the real prize has been learning how to maintain on my own! Changing my diet, not eating as much, biking to work on nice days, working out on my own, and connecting with the friends in my life who are on the same journey have helped me to learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. From this year’s physical I am happy to say that I am no longer hypertensive (122/82)! I still have a lot of work to do, but I can confidently say that I feel the best that I have in twenty years!

Thank you B.O.S.S. for all of your encouragement and guidance over the last eight years!

You truly have changed my life…
